Abstract
This study investigated the mediating effects of emotional clarity, emotional self-disclosure and deliberate rumination on the relationship between intrusive rumination and posttraumatic growth. Participants were 535 college students, administered questions about traumatic events, and the Event Related Rumination Inventory, Trait Meta Mood Scale, Distress Disclosure Index, and Posttraumatic Growth Inventory. Correlational analyses and SEM were performed on data from 443 participants reporting traumas. Intrusive rumination had a direct negative effect on emotional clarity and direct positive effect on deliberate rumination. Emotional clarity had a direct positive effect on emotional self-disclosure, deliberate rumination and posttraumatic growth. Deliberate rumination and emotional self-disclosure had direct positive effects on posttraumatic growth. Emotional clarity had a suppression effect on the relationship between intrusive rumination and deliberate rumination. Emotional clarity, deliberate rumination and emotional self-disclosure had suppression effects on the relationship between intrusive rumination and posttraumatic growth.
